MySQL Workbench 5.1.5 Alpha Available

We’re closing in on features left to be implemented in 5.1 and keep improving on stability. All object editors are in place now (some of them still in a basic version though) and a bunch of memleaks has been fixed already. Additionally we now statically link the ctemplate-library and therefore you won’t have to care about installing/maintaining that package on your own anymore.

We provide bin and src packages for Ubuntu and Fedora9 (both 32bit) at the moment. Please grab the latest packages from our official download page and Test-drive our latest offspring. Let us know about any problems on using or building (also for other distributions) this alpha verison.

  1. I’ve just rebuild RPM for Fedora 9, 10, i386 and x86_64.

    A minor issue : mysql-workbench (the launcher) refer to /usr/lib. This must be /usr/lib64 on x86_64.

    Should also use :
    sh –prefix=%{_prefix} –libdir=%{_libdir}

    Another issue : using standard fedora options to configure result in a non-working binary (i must investigate on this)
    => -O2 -g -pipe -Wall -Wp,-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -fexceptions -fstack-protector –param=ssp-buffer-size=4

    I don’t think *.a and *.la need to be packaged.

  2. Hi

    Thanks for the notes, I’ve updated the appropriate places.

    As for the non-working binary, the problem is likely to be the -O2.
    Somehow, we get crashes when one of our libs (grt) is compiled with optimizations and we haven’t had the time to track that yet. So for now it’s best to just compile everything without optimizations.

  3. hi, looks great! thanks for the work.
    again, compiling ubuntu 8.10 64bit is fine.

    only the showstoping bugs are still here. the bug ticket (#40598) says ‘fixed’ but its still crashing. testing with only 3 tables makes live hard…
    i hope we have not to wait another month until this is fixed, maybe we can ge a bugfix release soon?

    on the other side, christmas holydays are coming. take some time! don’t work too hard. 😉

  4. Hello friends.

    I have a problem with MySQL Workbench. I save a work, exit to program and later, i go open the job, the position of tables not run. All is on other table.

    Sorry my language. I am spanish. Thanks

  5. I’ve been trying Workbench for Linux versions since the first alpha. It’s becoming more and more stable, but since the first day, it’s impossible to delete a relation once you draw it. Without that feature, I can’t use workbench on a daily basis.
    It’s planned to add it in the near future? Thanks, and keep up the good work.

  6. i havc problems with the ubuntu deb on a debian lenny system. it is not possible to insert more than 3 tables in a diagramm.
    if you insert the first letter for the table name, the workbench breaks down.

    if you import a .mwb file from a windows system, the graphics are not longer correct – it is not usable.
